Gaming Name Guide — PUBG, MLBB, Free Fire & Valorant
Picking your in-game name is more important than people think. Your teammates have to read it during fights. Your enemies see it on the kill-feed for a split second. And once you spend your free name-change, the next one usually costs real money. So let's get it right the first time.
What works in each game
Every game is a little picky about names. Here's what actually works:
- PUBG Mobile / BGMI: 4–14 letters. Bold, italic, and most fancy styles work great. Stay away from the glitchy zalgo styles — the game blocks them.
- Mobile Legends (MLBB): 4–16 letters. The most flexible game. Works with bold, italic, decorative brackets like ꧁ ꧂, hearts, stars, almost anything you can copy.
- Free Fire: 3–20 letters. Bold and italic are safe bets. Glitch styles get blocked. You can add a country flag at the start (super popular right now).
- Valorant: Strict — most fancy styles get stripped. Stick to bold or italic. Your "Riot ID" tag has to stay normal letters.
- Call of Duty Mobile: 3–16 letters. Bold and italic work. Don't put three of the same symbol in a row (★★★ Pro) — the game says no.
Why your fancy name keeps getting rejected
That "name contains invalid characters" error is super annoying. The most common reasons:
- Hidden invisible characters. Some generators sneak in invisible spaces. Modern games block these because cheaters use them to copy other people's names. Our generator strips them out for you.
- Mixed letters from different alphabets. If your name has a regular "a" and a Russian "а" that looks the same, the game thinks you're trying to fake another player's name. Stick with one alphabet.
- Style takes up more "space" than expected. A bold 12-letter name might count as 24 letters inside the game. If you keep getting "name too long," try a shorter style like small caps.
- Banned words. "Admin", "Mod", "GM" — these get blocked instantly no matter how you style them.
Picking a clan or squad tag
A good squad tag is 2–4 letters, easy to chant on voice ("yo, SK push"), and easy to read on the kill-feed when you're getting third-partied. Skip the heavy decorations — they make your tag look cool in a screenshot but unreadable in actual gameplay.
One pro tip: if your team plans to enter any tournament (PMGC, MPL, etc.), check the rules first. Most tournaments require plain English names, so a fancy style that works in normal matches might force you to rename right before your big game. Not fun.
What names look like around the world right now
- India & Pakistan: Bold style with a two-letter clan tag, like SK·Rohit. Super common in PUBG/BGMI.
- Indonesia & Philippines: Decorative brackets ꧁ Name ꧂ are everywhere in MLBB.
- Brazil: Italic with a Greek letter at the front — Σ·Rio, Ω·Kira. Big in Free Fire.
- Middle East: Arabic names are now fully supported in MLBB and Free Fire.
- USA & Europe: Mostly plain names with one dot as a separator. Fancy styles are seen as a "beginner" thing in Valorant.
Test before you waste a name change
Easy trick: type your name above, copy it, then paste it into your in-game chat or DM a friend. If your friend sees the name correctly, it'll work as your username too. If it shows up as squares, pick a different style before you spend money on a rename card.
Quick answers
Does a fancy name affect my matchmaking or skill rating?
No. The game ranks you by your account, not by what your name looks like. A fancy name doesn't change anything about how you're matched.
Can I copy a pro player's name exactly?
You can copy the style, but most games block names that perfectly match verified pro players. Try a small variation.
Why do some MLBB names always show at the top of the friends list?
Friends list sorts by character. Names that start with a symbol (★, ✦, ◤) come before any normal letter, so they appear first. It's a free trick — no purchase needed.
Is "WOLF" the same as "Wolf"?
They look different, but most games treat them as the same name when checking if it's already taken. So you can't both have it.
Do fancy names work on console (PS5, Xbox)?
Yes on PS5 and Xbox Series. On older PS4s, some fancy styles show as squares to other PS4 players, even if your name is fine.
